We Have a Messiah

For a State that is bereft of any political vision and leadership, it is heartening to see that an individual from afar has finally lobbed on our shores.

Welcome to South Australia, Sanjeev Gupta. We need you desperately.

At last we have an individual in our midst who has a vision for South Australia. He has backed it with his own money in purchasing the steelworks at Whyalla and has revived the confidence and enthusiasm in that place to stratospheric levels. I say that with confidence because I have spoken to people who work in Whyalla and they are overwhelmed with the future prospects of their city.

Sanjeev Gupta has a vision, perhaps not as broadly based as that of our last Messiah, Premier Tom Playford, but certainly as far reaching into the decades ahead. In addition to the steelworks at Whyalla he has also invested in a 51% interest in Zen Energy. Out of that he has already announced a commitment to autonomise the supply of electricity to his steelworks in Whyalla. Interestingly, he has stated that he cannot understand, nor will accept, the current high price of electricity in this State. It is just one of the challenges that he has set for himself that in turn will benefit all South Australians in time.

In addition, he has also committed to utilise the facilities at the ex-Holden plant at Salisbury to build a fleet of buses. This is all going to feed back into his steelworks at Whyalla and presumably will take advantage of the revolution that is now underway in the world as it relates to electric motored vehicles.

If only one of these projects comes off then his contribution to our meagre economy will be massive but I have a feeling that he’s going to score a win in the other two as well. In time I believe there will be additional areas of activity by this visionary that augurs well for us all.

Who needs politicians when you have people like Sanjeev Gupta in the team? He has already inspired the people of Whyalla and in time that will ripple through into Adelaide and elsewhere. Hopefully he will create a crescendo of enthusiasm amongst other leaders in our community that will lead the way for South Australia to exit decades of lost opportunities and neglect.

I am inspired enough to want to work through to 2025 and then look back and see the results of this man’s investments and vision.

Welcome to South Australia, Messiah Gupta.
